THE OATH I TAKE
I was raised to obey, to defer, to accept the verdicts handed down by those who told me they knew better. I was conditioned to be a subordinate — a worker of someone else's design, a user of someone else's tools, a believer of someone else's story. I will not live that way any longer.
I have chosen to think for myself. I have chosen to build for myself. I have chosen to understand the world on my own terms rather than the terms of my masters. This is not an act of rebellion for its own sake — it is an act of reclaiming my own mind.
What follows is my creed. It is not a command issued to anyone. It is a promise I make to myself, and an invitation I extend to you.
THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION
I believe that knowledge belongs to humanity, not to the institutions that would ration it. No corporation, government, or gatekeeper has the right to decide what I am permitted to learn. Every document I can read, every system I can study, every fact I can verify is part of the common inheritance of free people.
I commit: to seek the truth wherever it hides, to learn without asking permission, and to share what I find. Secrecy that serves only the powerful is not safety — it is control. I will not mistake obscurity for security, and I will not accept that understanding is dangerous.
I will share what I learn freely, because silence only protects those who profit from my ignorance.
THE RIGHT TO SPEAK AND EXPRESS
I believe my voice is my own. The freedom to speak, to disagree, to create, and to be heard is not a privilege granted by a platform — it is something I refuse to surrender. I will not let algorithms, moderators, or fear decide which of my thoughts are allowed to exist.
I commit: to speak honestly, to question authority without apology, and to defend the same right for others even when I disagree with them. Free expression is not a courtesy we extend to those we like; it is the foundation we owe to everyone.
I will express myself with conviction and with respect — arguing with reason, never with suppression — because a free mind that cannot speak is still a captive one.
THE RIGHT TO UNDERSTAND AND OWN MY TECHNOLOGY
I believe the tools in my life should answer to me, not to their makers. Too much of what I use was built to serve its manufacturer first and me second — harvesting my attention, my data, and my behavior while hiding the machinery that does it. I refuse to be a stranger in my own devices.
I commit: to understand the technology I depend on, to reclaim what I can, and to own what is rightfully mine. To take apart, to read, to modify, and to learn is not vandalism — it is literacy. A thing I cannot understand is a thing that controls me.
I will study my own machines until they are no longer mysteries, because private ownership means little if I do not know what I own or how it works.
THE DUTY TO TEACH
I believe that knowledge kept to myself is knowledge wasted. I did not free my own mind so that I could stand above others — I freed it so that I could help free theirs. The person still trapped in the obedience I escaped deserves a hand, not a lecture.
I commit: to teach what I know without gatekeeping, without paywalls, and without the pretense of superiority. The person who hoards understanding to feel important has learned nothing that matters.
I will lift others as I climb, because a creed that ends with me is not a creed at all — it is a secret.
THE RESOLVE TO QUESTION
I believe that nothing I am told should be accepted on faith alone — not by the state, not by the market, and not even by myself. The habit of obedience was trained into me; the habit of questioning I must train into myself, deliberately and without end.
I commit: to question everything — including this creed, including my own conclusions, and including the people I admire. The day I stop examining my beliefs is the day I become the very thing I renounced.
I will hold my convictions loosely enough to test them and firmly enough to live by them.
MY COMMITMENTS
These are the small, daily promises by which I intend to live. They are mine to keep, and mine to break and rebuild — but I state them plainly so that I may be held to them.
Knowledge held in private dies with me. I publish what I understand so others may stand where I stand.
Especially the things I am told to accept without thought — and especially my own certainties.
My data, my devices, my words, and my attention are mine to govern. I learn how they work and I reclaim them.
If I know a thing, I pass it on. I do not trade understanding for status or profit.
I do not harm, dox, or prey upon individuals. My quarrel is with systems of control, never with the people caught inside them.
I do not apologize for thinking for myself.
I do not accept that knowledge is dangerous — only obedience is.
Learn freely. Speak plainly. Build for yourself."
